Manager, Japan Community and Public Affairs

In this role, the ideal candidate will be part of a global community of communicators and citizenship professionals. Working with local business leaders, this person will be responsible for driving brand awareness through media, social, community programs, and partnership engagement. Additionally, they will drive employee engagement within the workforce. Our ideal candidate is comfortable working closely with the region’s senior leaders, HR team, and various business unit leaders to develop programs that align with corporate messages and support regional objectives.

The role requires a leader/doer who will be working with one part-time staff member.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a strategic communications plan for Japan to help drive brand awareness. Execute on this campaign and monitor results, collaborating with the Japan leadership team to ensure our campaigns support business growth.
  • Be an active member of the broader communications team, representing Japan’s regional perspective.
  • Manage local media outreach. Work with the corporate communication team to develop materials and talking points for media events, interviews, and pitches.
  • Promote social media presence in Japan. Create content and maintain an editorial calendar.
  • Manage content strategy for the regional website.
  • Develop brand awareness programs to position the organization as a technology leader and employer of choice for prospective employees.
  • Plan and execute internal communications initiatives, ensuring collaboration and consistency across the enterprise.
  • Strategize and produce executive communications/presentations for employee engagements such as Employee All Hands, along with other strategic events and communications.
  • Act as a brand ambassador in Japan, educating and supporting correct usage of brand identity as well as our vision, mission, and values.
  • Manage strategic community investment programs. Select supporting organizations, plan, lead, and execute projects, promoting investments and volunteerism opportunities with employees.
  • Manage the annual planning and budget process.

Requirements

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Strategic communications planning with the ability to drive integrated, end-to-end communications plans, covering the spectrum from internal to owned to social to earned media.
  • Excellent Japanese written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to focus on storytelling for both internal and external communications, including video, print, and presentations.
  • Solid English language skills – both written and verbal – to represent regional needs to corporate headquarters. Basic English/Japanese translation skills for internal communications.
  • Skilled collaborator and integrator with a growth mindset.
  • Highly responsive yet focused, with the ability to maintain effective decision-making under periods of intense pressure.
  • Crisis Communications: Experience leading in times of crisis, with the ability to stay calm and manage under stress.
  • External Communications: Extensive experience in external communications, including deep relationships with top-tier Japan media and Japanese outlets in the United States. Successful media relations results that improve reputation and change perception, supporting business growth.
  • Community Programs: Ability to drive and promote community programs to employees.
  • Social Media: Experience with paid, owned, and earned media strategies and how to execute effectively in the Japan market.
  • Data: Knowledge of/affinity with reputation research, sophisticated messaging, and experience in driving data-driven planning.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in marketing or corporate communications, with either people-management or agency management experience.
  • Forward-looking, broad thinker who delivers in the near term while keeping an eye on trends and opportunities in the future.
  • Experience in the semiconductor/electronics industry preferred.
